“Empire of Silence” is a really good Sci-Fi book that I wish would shut up sometimes. One criticism I saw a lot of this book was that the main character likes to wax poetic about most things. I thought surely this was an exaggeration, after all, flowery prose is not anything new to the genre. Turns out they were not exaggerating. Honestly it isn’t always to its detriment. A lot of the details add to the world building or character depth but when almost every other paragraph is describing the color of the upholstery on a love seat no one ever uses in the scene, or describing for the 100th time how the main character is biting the inside of his cheek it can start to get a bit old. I can tell this is setting up for what the rest of the story will become since on the very first page Hadrian (The MC) tells us how his story ends. There are a lot of promises made in this book that I am very excited to see come to fruition. Besides that I really like Hadrian. Or I guess “like” isn’t the right word, I think Hadrian is a very good character. Incredibly flawed and yet I want to watch him succeed even if I want to scream at him through the pages whenever he makes dumbass decisions. All in all I really enjoyed this book. I’m probably going to put a gap between this book and its sequel but I am excited to see what happens next.
Final scoring 4/5
