It has been just over a day of reading and I just finished “PIRANESI”. This has instantly become a favorite of mine and a book I will recommend to anyone without hesitation. It is difficult for me to talk about PIRANESI in any capacity cause it is very much one of those things where it is best experienced blind. And I really recommend you do. Without going to in depth the story follows a man named Piranesi who navigates an infinitely massive house, its walls lined with statues that do not repeat, and flowing tides that move between the individual vestibules. We experience the story through Piranesi’s journal entries while he tries to figure out who these new people entering the house are. From the beginning something is off but it is not clear what. Unfortunately saying more would ruin the experience but if you need a little more to convince you to read what other book can you find where the main character details helping a pair of Albatross build a nest of dried seaweed in one journal entry to then describe a note that reads “I indulge myself in long fantasies of killing him… I found a jagged piece of marble about the size of a roof tile. This would give me great satisfaction…” as the writing of a very angry and unhappy person to then go back to detail how an entire flock of Albatross thinks of him as a friend.
