Blood Over Bright Haven is officially complete. All in all it was a very good read. The plot follows the main character Sciona as she becomes the first female highmage in history. The entire book follows her trying to break through the glass ceiling of her profession all the while covering racism, immigration, and misogyny all ingrained into the culture of Tiran, the city in which the story takes place. I will say while I thoroughly enjoyed the story and the characters I was able to very quickly guess the main twist of the story within the first 3 chapters. I don’t know if that was just a me thing or not but since the story so heavily relies on this revelation it did kind of take that surprise factor away once it was revealed and left me thinking “oh ok” when they didn’t go further with it. Yes, it was well executed and served the plot very well but I feel like if it took me longer to catch on then I would’ve enjoyed the story a bit more. All in all a very strong 4/5. This is a book I will recommend to people along with Piranesi and isn’t ranked as highly only because I was able to predict it’s twist very early on. Also I had assumed that even though I predicted the twist the author would find a way to take it a step further than I had initially assumed. Which I was incorrect in guessing.
